Achievements

  • Enrico Santus, PhD candidate in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, was awarded the Distinguished Young Paper Award for the paper titled “Unsupervised Antonym-Synonym Discrimination in Vector Space”, written by Enrico Santus, Qin Lu, Alessandro Lenci and Chu-Ren Huang, at the Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics (CLiC-it) (http://clic.humnet.unipi.it/en/index.html), which took place in Pisa, Italy, during 9 - 10 December 2014. As part of the award, an extended version of the paper will be published in a journal.

  • The LLT has developed a new system for the automatic identification of sentiment intensity in tweets using figurative language (range [-5; +5]). The system - which uses various features, including those specifically concerned with the identification of irony and sarcasm - obtained the third overall performance (out of fifteen models) in the SemEval-2015 Task 11 evaluation and the first performance for tweets involving irony and sarcasm.

  • The best performing system in the 2009 Web People Search (WePS) competition of the WePS Workshop in 18th International World Wide Web (WWW) Conference.
